Challenge: Provide a small accounting office of 12 PCs with a cost-effective new network offering centralized application and data storage, secure Internet access, centralized e-mail and fax services, and modem sharing for use by financial applications.
Solution: Set up a Fast Ethernet network with a Microsoft Small Business Server. Install a DSL-based Internet connection. This solution offered all required network services using just a single server computer to provide file and print services, Exchange e-mail server, SQL Database server, Internet Proxy server, and shared modem and fax pooling. It also offered simplified network management and remote access to the network by users at home or on the road.
